How do I stop my hair from turning red (reddish tint) from using relaxers?

Okay, I'm guilty! I over relax my hair. It's really course and no relaxer is a match against it. Anyhoo, this causes my hair to have a reddish tint to it that I don't like to begin with, and what's worse is that this reddish tint doesn't even look natual. So what can I do, or use that'll retain my hair's orginal color when over relaxing? (And I don't want to dye my hair back to its natual color either b/c that process is messy... etc. Also, I've tried all kinds of different relaxers to no avail. And if I want to retain the texture of it, the way I like, then I find I have to frequently relax my hair, and like I said... that's why my hair has that reddish tint.) Pls help w/some suggestions on how to "get the red out", or better yet... how to prevent it in the first place.

Relaxers can be VERY harsh. What is happening is that it is either lightening your natural color due to over-processing, or it is stripping out old hair color you have on your hair.

You could use a semi-perm color to tone it back to a more natural color.

Prevention: stop overrelaxing your hair, it's gonna cause your hair to break off because it's gonna be dry %26amp; damaging. Your hair does not have to be coarse; deep condition your hair once a week to improve it's texture. Also, your hair always turns color when you have a relaxer. My hair is naturally soft black with brown %26amp; red undertones, when I relaxed my hair it turned brown with red highlights.

get the red out: your hair probably has red undertones, you say it doesn't look natural but that's probably due to the overprocessing. if you relaxed your hair properly you would probably just get natural looking red highlights. maybe you should get a toner to tone the red down, but that would probably dry your hair out even more.
